Navigation is often an overlooked skill for hillwalkers, mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts. We’re told that you should always carry a map and compass, but the trick is learning how to use them to navigate. Our navigation courses are about much more than learning map reading so we teach our clients the wide range of skills to successfully navigate in the hills and mountains.
Our navigation courses throughout the year. We have years of experience teaching people how to navigate. Our tutors are all outdoor professionals with a background in delivering friendly, fun and effective training. While we are based in Glasgow, our courses run throughout Scotland.
We have range of courses to suit everyone- from complete novices to those who are looking to hone their skills. Currently we offer three different courses directly to the public; Learn how to Navigate, Bronze National Navigation Award Scheme and the Silver National Navigation Award scheme. Learn how to navigate courses
We adopt an relaxed approach on this one day course. We use a range of fun exercises, maps and activities to demystify the subject and build confidence. This course assumed that you have no prior knowledge making it ideal for anyone who would like to been their navigational journey!
Bronze National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS)
The National Navigation Award Scheme is designed to provide a nationally recognised framework for the development of a competent navigator. It is delivered over two days, and starts by looking at the basics including map setting, reading and basic use of the compass. We go beyond the skills delivered in the introduction course and look at how to plan a journey. It’s a great introduction to the subject.
Silver National Navigation Award Scheme NNAS
The Silver National Navigation Award is an intermediate course. It builds on the skills taught on the Bronze Award and concentrates on the ability to work away from paths and tracks. It is the next step for those who have completed the Bronze award. The course is delivered over two days.
