Here are the Adventure Academy CIC we believe that our team is the secret to our success. The team is very diverse back round, coming from many different backgrounds and careers. We’ve got everything from teachers and youth workers to PhD graduates. We’ve worked hard to ensure that we’re a friendly and professional bunch!
Andy Hart, Executive Director
Andy is our executive director, he is responsible for the Day to day running of the Adventure Academy CIC. You’ll find Andy delivering on our outdoor first aid courses, Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions and navigation training.
The Duke of Edinburgh award is one of Andy’s specialisms; in the past Andy has worked directly for DofE Scotland as a development officer, a centre coordinator for a Glasgow school and a freelance expedition assessor and supervisor.
Andy currently holds the summer mountain leader award, a certificate in Advanced outdoor first aid and a first aid at work certificate. He is currently working towards the winter mountain leader award, single pitch award and an diploma in personal training.
Mike Goude, Associate Instructor
Mike is one of our associate instructors. He discovered his love for the outdoors at university: it was here that he decided that engineering wasn’t the career for him, and he started a career in the outdoors. Until last year Mike lectured outdoor pursuits in a further education college.
Mike has spent considerable time leading at altitude. He’s climbed in the Alps, lead a group in Ecuador and had an aborted attempt of Cho Oyu. All of us here at the Adventure Academy, wish him the best of luck when he returns to China next year to conquer the 8000 meter peak.
Mike currently holds the Mountaineering Instructor Award, an outdoor first aid certificate and is a level 2 Paddlesports coach with a 5 star award in open canoe. Mike is currently working towards the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate, and his level 3 coaching certificate in paddlesports.
Jan Wilmington, Associate Instructor
Jan splits her time between Scotland and Tanzania where she volunteers with the Maarifa Project; a project which promotes education in Tanzania. She’s been blessed with many friends in the country, having delivered outdoor first aid training courses to Kilimanjaro Guides and local safari guides.
Jan loves working with people from all sorts of backgrounds. She is often found working on our DofE expeditions, developmental residential and delivering our outdoor first aid course.
Jan holds the Summer Mountain Leader Award, the single pitch award, an outdoor first aid certificate and is a first aid trainer. Jan is currently working towards her Winter Mountain Leader Award.
Phil Robinson, Associate Instructor
Phil is equally at home in the mountains or running rapids. He has a life time of experience working in the outdoor industry. Phil started his career in the Royal Marines, before working for a wide variety of outdoor activity providers.
You are likely to meet Phil running our white water rafting trips or assessing Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions. When Phil is not working for the Adventure Academy he runs Outdoor Pursuits Scotland. We work in partnership with OPS to deliver a wide range of water based activities for young people.
Phil holds the summer mountain leader award, the single pitch award, and is currently working towards his winter mountain leader award. Phil is a raft guide trainer/assessor, a UKCC level 2 paddlesports coach, and is a mountain bike leader.
Chris McGeown, Associate Instructor
As well as currently working as one of our associate instructors, Chris works for the John Muir Award. Chris has a long history in the outdoor industry; in the past Chris worked for the Outward Bound Trust and Venture Scotland.
Chris currently holds the summer mountain leader award, the single pitch award, is a level 2 canoe coach and a Scottish mountain bike leader. Chris has an outdoor first aid certificate.
Mhairi Martin, Associate Instructor
Mhairi discovered her love for the outdoors while a member of her Universities Mountaineering Club. She’s a keen rock climber and mountaineer, having spent a fair bit of time in the Alps. Closer to home she a round of the Munros. She loves the mountains and is keen to pass that love onto others.
While not working as an Associate Instructor Mhairi works as a Laser Development Engineer, having worked hard to achieve her Doctorate in Photonics from Heriot Watt University.
Mhairi holds the Summer Mountain Leader Award, and a first aid certificate. She is currently working towards the Winter Mountain Leader Award.
